Jim's Review of TruGlo TG131AR Tritium Fiber Optic AR-15 Sight
First off I must say I have been using Truglo sights since 1996 on turkey hunting shotguns I have built and have great success. They have been very reliable, durable and will hold zero with recoil from 3” or 3 ½” turkey loads. I gave this product a 1 star rating because from my experience it was a great idea that never got off the drawing board. I purchased the sight from OP and it arrived promptly. I attempted to install it on a nationally known Made in USA AR. With the sight I received the first thing I discovered was the TFD Sight Post did not fit in the mill spec A2 front sight post whole and detent whole. To wide. At that point I had two ways to go 1) return the sight to OP who I am sure would have had a no question return or 2) using my stubborn New England attitude MAKE IT FIT. The next thing I discovered was the Sight Instillation/ Adjustment Tool included with the sight was too wide to turn in the A2 sight base. In the attempt to bend the tool to fit one prong of snapped off. I gently milled the A2 sight detent whole to fit the sight post .002” removed. I then went to a friend who is a law enforcement officer and has an issue AR of the same model and made by the same manufacturer. Using a hand held digital caliper I measured the height of his front sight knowing his was sighted in for 100 yds. Using #8 brass washers with the ID drilled to fit the sight post and 800 grit Emery Cloth I shimmed the front sight to + or - .001” of the measurement from my friends sight. I also had to shorten the sight retaining spring to fit. Went to the local gravel pit (we can still do that here) and was right on. SUCCESS at 100. Went home cleaned the AR and removed the Truglo front sight and reinstalled the mill spec sight. The Truglo sight took me about 8 hrs. to correctly install and test. It should have been a 10 to 15 min. job. I would not recommend this sight to a friend and with the aggravation it caused me I will not use it on any firearm.
