AlexT's Review of Unity Tactical FAST FTC Omni Mount

Have had the Eotech mounted to the FST-ORB for a few years on my light trainer kit and appreciated the slight height increase for comfort. Figured I'll add this (both the ORB and Omni mounts) to the full setup with the Eotech magnifier that I have on my primary action-ready kit... no dice:

1) In closed position the arm of the Omni mount obscures the bottom window of the sight. It's angled and there's just enough weird geometry to throw me off. Maybe 8%+/- blockage. I'm sure I'd get used to it, but it's instantly noticeable and distracting.
2) In open position it's misaligned as well - sits too low in relation to the sight window and unless your position is perfect (think stationary, slow aim) it interferes/blocks the sight window as well.

#1 I could deal with, but combined with #2 and that fact that a) you loose irons + b) add additional bulk it's not worth it to me. Frankly I'm really surprised that this isn't discussed more, because it should be. I'm willing to compromise a few things here and there, but if you're going to claim improvement over something that works quite well from the start (just standard Eotech setup), it needs to be darn-near perfect. This kit isn't. After doing some digging, I found a number of complaints about it but also found out that this is by design to accommodate a variety of other optics making this a "fit-all" compromise.

That said - for anyone willing to deal with the shortcomings listed above the mechanical quality is top notch and ability to tuck away magnifier without having it dangle to the side is really nice.
Pros:
  • Quality materials and construction
Cons:
  • Blocks sight picture in both positions
Best Used for:
  • Someone who's willing to deal with compromised sight picture
