Great nvd but a few quirks/differences - US NightVision USNV-14 Gen 3 Auto-Gated Nightvision Monocular

I'm very happy with my USNV14. I have the non-autogated version which is identical in all other aspects. This unit is lighter weight than most and very easy to use controls even in pitch dark. I am very happy with this unit as its rugged, and the NV clarity is excellent even in very low light conditions. The IR can be turned off if mounted behind a weapon optic. This way the light doesnt reflect off the optic and causes your image to flare. It fits perfectly inline with my aimpoint pro. This unit also has the ability to use CR123 batteries which are far superior to AA batteries. Choice is left to the user as it accepts both.
The cons of this unit is that it doesnt have to the contact pins that PVS14's have that shut the unit off if you flip your NVD up on your headmount. Also you will need a specific transfer / J arm to make this work for your headmount.
The objective lens is a different size (smaller) than the PVS14 which forces you to buy different/ more expensive objective covers or magnifiers. This is a big Con to purchasing this unit because your paying premium for accessories. All the accessories for the USNV14 are more expensive than PVS14.
Pros: Lite weight, function, clarity, ease of use, rugged
Cons: USNV14 has its own parts not compatible with PVS14
