The Farmer has the three backpacking essentials -- main blade, wood saw, awl/reamer -- in just about the most compact, bomb-proof package. As with all 3-5/8" long Alox models, the Farmer's main blade is a little thicker and sturdier than those on their cellidor (plastic-handled) peers. You do lose the tweezers and toothpick, and the Alox handle will feel colder in lower temps. But its surface provides more grip esp. for gloved hands, and most of all it is nearly indestructible. In contrast, the cellidor handles have been known to break off with strenuous use of the wood saw, exposing flat, smooth metal with sharp edges and exposed rivets. The only other potential negative of the Farmer is that some folks find that the keyring attachment digs into their palms. That doesn't happen to me and I use the keyring for a lanyard; but its aluminum so you could easily cut and sandpaper it if need be. Not perfect, but pretty close.
Pros: Sturdy and light with the essentials
Cons: You lose the tweezers and toothpick
