johnalextc's Review of Viridian Weapon Technologies NAA Magnum Red Grip Laser Sights

I recently purchased the Viridian laser-grip for the NAA .22 magnum frame revolver from a www seller.

The Viridian laser-grip makes the NAA mini-revolver much easier and faster to shoot accurately, especially under actual violent attack conditions. I give this product a 5 star rating because 4 Stars unfairly penalizes it, for a design defect that can be remedied, but should not exist.

Some other reviews note complaints relative to the grip size and the laser activation switch. However, training and practice can reliably remedy such problems.

A more serious problem is that combustion products (e.g. smoke and vaporized lead) from firing cartridges find their way into the optics chamber, via the open hole where the laser beam exits its housing. They condense on and coat the internal optical elements. As noted by at least one other reviewer, unprotected optical elements tend to get badly coated with combustion products in less than 50 shots, which greatly reduces the brightness and usability of the emitted laser beam.

Cleaning the combustion products from the optical elements is doable but may be challenging for many persons, and result in damaging the optics. I suggest that persons with said diminished laser brightness problem seek guidance from Viridian as to best way to safely clean the optical elements and restore diminished laser brightness.

A short term solution for preventing diminished laser brightness is to use a small piece of clear packaging tape to cover the laser beam emission office, and essentially prevent combustion products from entering the optics chamber. This solution is not ideal; but works well. It essentially prevents combustion products coating damage to the
optical elements. A piece clear tape diminishes laser brightness only insignificantly and will last about 50 shots before needing replacement.
Pros:
  • Greatly increases shooting accuracy
Cons:
  • has apparent minor design defect
Best Used for:
  • Increasing accuracy
