NoHillery's Review of Vism 2924 Series Plate Carrier Vest w/ Two Ballistic Plates

This is my third purchase of this vest and ballistic panel combo. NcStar makes three versions of thie plate carrier itself, so know which one you need. I bought the smaller, padded-suspenders type. It has a more open shoulder strap configuration and unlike the other two, has a removable waist cummerbund. The cummerbund has pockets for small side plates, but would offer little protection. Those small panels are not included. With cummerbund removed, the vest can be simply thrown over the head and the two buckles
attached. This carrier version comes with the slightly smaller front and back ballistic soft panels and will hold the smaller 10"x12" hard plates. The carrier is excellent quality, with heavy velcro and good padding. If the carrier had a second interior pocket for a small 5"x8" trauma plate, I would have given five stars. But the price is excellent and I have held soft and hard VISM ballistic test plates. They stand up to test claims, with the possible exception of some 5.56 rounds. The soft panels stopped all handgun caliber sand the hard plates stopped multiple .308 and 7.62 hits. Both soft and hard panels are much lighter weight than expected, which is a bonus.
The other two carrier styles are a little larger and hold the larger 11"x14" plates. One model carrier has a "quick disconnect" removal feature (a gimmic, unless on the battlefield), that allows a tab pulled, causing the vest to "fall apart" for removal. The other style, looks like the quick release model, but is simply a standard carrier, with more coverage around the arms and shoulders, but cummerbund is sewn to vest. Again, know the differences in the carriers and pick carefully. The drop-down menu ordering system is a bit confusing.
With all that said, these are great carriers and the ballistic panels perform as advertised. Quality is good and the panels are lightweight. For the price, you can not go wrong. Highly recommended !
Pros:
  • Good quality construction. Ballistic panels and plates test well
Cons:
  • No interior trauma plate pocket for added protection in sternum area.
Best Used for:
  • Activities where added movement is needed. Grab and Go situation
  • Activities where added movement is needed
