Barr's Review of Volquartsen Firearms Remington 597 Action Kit w/Target Hammer & Extractor
this is a .22 mag manufactured in the late 90's. Lately it had become a Jam-O-Matic. The only reason I haven't gotten rid of it is that when it shoots it will do 1 1/2" from a bench and 2 1/2" freestyle at 30-32 yds (as far as my 74 yr old eyes can still see a small target). However thats useless when its not reliable enough to get thru a 6-7 rd mag w/o failure.
The original plastic factory mags were a major part of the problem.Over the years Rem updated them w/ amore reliable metal unit. The trigger pull was a not too smooth 6 lbs or so. The Volqsie target hammer is much smoother w/ a 3.5 to 4.0 lb pull. Much better!
The extractor caused problems w/ every reload. It may have been years since I got thru a complete mag w/o FTE. I'm at over 200 rds thru it since the parts change( not hard to do either) and have had only 1 failure and I believe I caused it by cramming rds into the mag in a hurry
The rifle is a real treat to shoot again. I'm so glad that I gambled the money to keep from having to spend $500 to get something at least as good.
Optics Planet had the best price that I was able to find and their service ranks w/any parts vendors that I use
