Sherlocbonz's Review of Volquartsen Firearms TG2000 Ruger 10/22 Rifle Trigger Group

My son and I are each building 10/22 clones with the objective being to use 100% aftermarket parts, with the exception of Ruger factory magazines (because we want them to work!). I'm doing an all Kidd, my son is doing 90% Kidd but wanted a trigger group in FDE. I had read mixed reviews about the VQ (I am a VQ fan, having used their parts exclusively to upgrade 4 different Mark III pistols). I was very pleasantly surprised.

It dropped in the Kidd receiver with no issues. It's secured in place with the Kidd trigger group pins with the screws that prevent the pins from falling out. Magazine release is short for my taste, but my son thinks it is the perfect size. Magazines drop effortlessly, so no points off for that. Shape of the trigger itself is very comfortable. Angular trigger guard looks good if you are going for a more tactical look. Frame of group is aluminum and it feels rock solid. Much better than polymer OEM Ruger or Ruger BX.

Bolt latch is what it is for 10/22, but with the shape of the magazine release on this trigger group it seemed to be a little easier to operate.

Finish is perfect as you would expect from VQ. I don't have a trigger pull scale, but it is very comfortable and a decent pull for plinking and shooting from the bench. Pre-travel is smooth, break is crisp. Ruger BX trigger feels like it is full of sand compared to this.

The only two things I would knock it for are pretty minor; not worth taking a star.
First, it comes very well packaged in a box, but there is no plastic guard like Ruger ships BX with to prevent hammer from moving if trigger is pulled while not installed. I didn't pull the trigger with this not installed to see if bad things would happen to it like a factory trigger group, but it seemed odd to me that there was no packaging or warning.
Second, keeping the safety centered for installation of a barreled action into a stock was a real challenge. He's using an Archangel stock that looks great and feels rock solid. If you read reviews on this stock, it may require fitting. So far we've got two hours into sanding the interior for the receiver to fit and we're not quite there yet. The safety popping from one side to the next as we try to test fit in the stock is an annoyance. When centered, it is a very tight fit. I didn't throw a caliper on it to see how it compares with an OEM safety but my calibrated fingers tell me it is perhaps 0.003-0.004" longer. To be clear, the detent that holds it in the SAFE or FIRE positions is great, but holding that mid position so you can install it in a stock was a bit of a challenge, compounded by the fact that the stock fit was tight.

Overall I'd recommend this trigger group to anyone, especially if you are looking for the correct color to complete your build or upgrade. A Ruger BX trigger is a little less than 1/3'rd the cost of this trigger. The BX trigger feels like plastic gritty garbage compared to the TG2000. The Kidd trigger I ordered for my build got backordered a week by Optics Planet, so once that arrives I'll have another high quality trigger to compare to.
