I had to have my Barska Point .223 scope clear the Midwest Industries BUIS, which are .675" tall when folded flat on my AR, so I went in search of a solution, and wanted quality. Vortex provided the quality, but not the full solution as the eyepiece on the Barska is huge. Ended up using a UTG riser and now I have .125" clearance between the bottom of the eyepiece and the MBUIS.
Not being a stranger to milling, and high end aircraft components, I was impressed with the quality of the Vortex product. It was so precise that when I placed them onto the scope tube without screws they held on with friction. No gap, no misalignment, perfect.
After torquing the screws on the mounts, I discovered when mounting them to the rail using the adjustable quick release just as smooth as the finish on the mounts. Super nice!
I can't say enough about them, and the only complaint is if Vortex offered a 1.75" version, I wouldn't have needed the UTG riser.
Haven't had a chance to take it to the range and dial it in and remove and replace to see if it holds zero, but based on the quality thus far, I don't think it will be an issue.
Pros: Extremely well crafted, Precise machining, Outstanding locking mechanism
Cons: They don't offer taller versions, such as a 1.5" or 1.75" optics center.
