During a birding trip this Spring I realized that my difficulty in spotting a Kentucky Warbler in dense understory was due in part to the shortcomings of my old binos. My aging eyes needed binos that were much brighter and also had a wider field of vision and greater depth of field. I did a lot research and pestered a lot of fellow birders for a look through their equipment. The German equipment was obviously superior, but I did not want to spend that much money. I decided to try the Vortex Vipers after reading the results of a comparison test of the top makers published in Birdwatching.com. In it, the Vortex Vipers (without the HD glass) finished fourth after Leica, Zeiss, and the Nikon Edg, all at over 3 times the cost. After a number of birding trips, I am completely satisfied with my choice and note that they are extremely light and come with a lifetime warranty.
