Dave's Review of Vortex Optics Viper HD 8x32 Roof Prism Binocular VPR-3208-HD
I was able to compare the Viper HD 8x42 and 8x32 side by side during bright sun to well after sundown. The brightness of the 8x32 was as good as the 8x42 up until about 25 minutes after sundown. At that point the 8x42s faded out about five minutes later and there wasn't really much difference in the two. Clarity of the 32s is just as good as the 42s in my opinion and is very crisp. Colors are realistic and I did not notice any CA even when looking for it. Eye relief is where I found a real difference between these two Vipers. The 42s have a long eye relief and you almost need to move your eye off the fully extended eye cups for the full view. The 42s would be better for those wearing eye glasses but I don't and they are a bit too long for me. On the other hand, the 32's were perfect for me without eye glasses and I found I could use them on the second or third click out depending on how tight I held them to my eyes. The 8x32s are smaller and lighter and give up almost nothing in terms of optical quality and brightness compared to the 8x42s. They also have a larger field of view which I liked. I liked the ergonomics of the 8x32s better as well. The focus wheel is precise with no play and just the right amount of tension. They just felt better in my hands. I also compared them to a pair of Zeiss Conquests 8x42s which also had eye relief that was too long for me. The 8x32 Viper HD gave up very little in terms of clarity and brightness to the Zeiss. I am very happy with them.
