Lars's Review of Vortex Solo 10x36 Monocular
I got into birding several years back and primarily use a mirrorless camera outfitted with a large telephoto lens. While I can look through the camera to get a better view of a potential subject, the camera battery drains a little with each surveillance shortening the batteries' charge for taking pictures. Note that I have a pair of Zeiss binos that I sometimes bring along but often leave them at home and just use the camera. I have been reading about the Vortex brand, which appears to be solid, and noticed the lifetime warranty. The Solo 10X36 monocular is relatively small (approximately the size of a toilet paper cardboard roll) and can fit into a jacket/vest pocket (w/o the case), buckled onto a belt (w/supplied case), or attached using the belt clip, which is large and sturdy. While the view through the monocular is not a crisp as with the binos, I was not expecting it to be. Since purchase, I find that I am bringing the Solo on my frequent birding trips due to the light weight and relatively small size. The view using the Solo is bright and clear with fairly good resolution. For the price, these were a good buy and will get plenty of use.
