drumvudu's Review of Vortex SPARC II Red Dot 2 MOA SPC-402

When I ordered this optic, these were my exact intention. I wanted something that obviously had a good reputation through word of mouth and reviews but also something that wouldn't break the bank as the rifle it was going on was not what I consider my goto gun in any way and is locked up 95% of the time anyway. I have stated in other reviews that when it comes to red dots, the only optic I will trust my families lives as well as mine to are either Aimpoint or Aimpoint. I simply refuse to take the chance that I may need to pick up a rifle and immediately fire and my optic not be on whether the batteries died or it turned itself off. I may trust others if they even met that criteria, but they don't. I felt that way about illumination as well for years I trusted nothing but Surefire until I met Elzetta. Now, I still love my Surefire lights, but I also love Elzetta stuff too. Anyway, I'm off subject. The Sparc 2 is a very nice red dot. It maintains zero very well, it's not too heavy if you get a lighter mount (actually, the mount isn't the bad, I just hate that it mounts with screws and not a thumb screw or lever. If I ever needed to remove it in a hurry, that would really suck full of adrenaline. It has worked flawless for me since day one and the battery life has been very good. Mine has actually worked substantially longer, by 11%, than the manual says it will on a single battery. Kudos to Vortex for that. I also love the fact that it will mount to anything built for the T-1 micro as I have several mounts for that optic. I believe that the Primary Arms micro will also mount to that base. A word of caution, if you have purchased a lower 1/3 cowitness mount for your t-1 or primary arms sights and plan to use them with this optic, it may mount too low to see the front sight. Not all of them do, but some do and if I had an exhaustive list I would post it but I do not. If I ever find one, I will post it here.
Overall, I would say that it is a great buy for what you are getting. It comes with three different mount heights so you don't immediately have to go right out and spend $100 on a mount too. I really dig that part. The click adjustments are very positive and tactile as well as audible. I think most shooters will dig this optic.
