Legacy Reviewer's Review of Vortex StrikeFire Red Dot Scopes AR15

First off, this is not an Aimpoint. Its also not $600. For the money, its awesome. If I was heading to Iraq, I would most definitely buy an Aimpoint. But for the occasional target / beer can / ground squirrel / or zombie that may or may not ever climb my fence, this thing is perfect. Quality is first rate, dont worry about that. Red dot only version is way brighter than red / green, so get the red only. Optics are extremely clear, anybody says different, theyre full of it. I also bought a cantilever mount looks WAY better. As for Vortex as a company, youll be blown away with the service and responsiveness, more on that later. Issues I had the scope caps were way too hard to close as most people will attest. One phone call to the very friendly gal at Vortex, and I had new caps at the house in two days. Totally solved the problem. Original caps were either too hard of a durometer, too old or too small, either way, the new ones are awesome. Also, the dot was giving me problems as others mentioned. It was bent egg shaped. Another E-mail to Vortex, and they sent me info. Turns out, the funny dot shape was caused by MY EYE. If you look at the dot with both eyes and the shape of the dot changes, its your eyes. If you rotate the scope while looking at the dot, and the dot shape does not turn with the scope, its not the scopes fault, its your eye. I also had other people describe the dot they saw. Each person gave a different description. To me, it looked like a bent egg. To my wife, it looked like a fly. To a buddy, it looked star shaped. This is not the scopes fault, but caused by astigmatisms in our eyes. Everyone has them to one degree or another. This red dot is a 4 MOA. That can seem large at 100 yards and greater. The Aimpoint and this scope, were designed for quick acquisition of human targets between 25 and 100 yards. NOT ground squirrels at 200 yards. If thats what you want to shoot, get a 3x9 ACOG style magnifying scope, not this one. For what this scope was designed for, two eyes open / quick acquisition, it does that perfectly. Forget the EOTech clones, they are NOT bright enough. Heck, even a genuine EOTech isnt bright enough in my opinion. This Strikefire is VERY bright, and extremely good looking. Im very happy with it, and would buy it again.
Pros: Looks, dot brightness, overall quality and robustness
Cons: Dot adjustment slightly clumsy
