Stealthbear's Review of Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP Rifle Scope
I purchased a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor and went looking for scope to make this gun a thousand yard rifle. comparing price and features of the Vortex Viper there wasn't anything in this price range to match. I purchased the Vortex scope rings with a 1" raise because of the diameter of the scope eyepiece and objective lens. These worked perfectly and fit the guns Picatinny rail. Went to the range and sighted the gun in at 100 yrds for zero. I made the mistake of trying to bore sight the scope before using it and it caused me to over adjust prior to taking it to the range. I feel I would have been much better off just mounting the scope and starting out at 50 yards. Once I finally got the scope back to hitting paper reasonably it was a cinch to get to the zero mark. I was punching the cross out of the center of the target, not once but multiple times. At 500 yards I just crank in my dope on the cartridge I'm using and I can consistently hit 1 MOA. I haven't had the opportunity to take the gun out to it's max range but I have every expectation that the scope and gun will work perfectly.
Pros:
- features and price
Cons:
- eye relief but on low recoil 6.5 Creedmoor not a problem
Best Used for:
- Long range precision shooting
