Most Helpful Positive Review Good value optic
Came with my Savage 16 in 308 as a combo, so not much expectation on the scope. Just wanted to give it a shot before replace it. After 6 months of use and abuse, I've changed my mind. Will keep this scope on the rifle. I've dragged it through bush, bumped on the truck, used in the rain. It worked v...

I purchased a 22-250 savage axis combo with a weaver 3x9x40 scope for my girlfriend this past Christmas, she was very excited to finally shoot it for the first time since it's been warm outside. We were shooting the rifle at 50 yards to sight it in, after I sighted in my 6.5 creedmore I just purchas...

Scope is Totally Unreliable

by I40880, from SC, United States Written on October 31, 2021
I recently purchased a brand new Savage 30-06 that came with this scope. When trying to zero the scope it was all over the place. I made sure everything was tight and it was. I took the rifle back to the shop and they exchanged it with another exactly same scope. I took it home and sure enough, it zero in just fine. I kill a deer with it a couple of days later with a perfect shot that drop him immediately. Two days later, I shot another buck at about 150 yards, a little further than the previous shot. I noticed that the entry wound was several inches below where I aimed. But it dropped him perfectly. The next day, I had a shot at a trophy buck that I have been after for some time. He bolted. When I checked out the location there was white hair, a bone fragment, fat and just a speck of blood. Obviously, I hit him very low. I could not track him and did not recover him. I checked the scope out and it is now shooting over 7 inches low. I have ordered a new scope. This one is garbage. I have heard that Weaver once made good scopes but the latest ones that I have used cannot be set up and relied on. I might add that this rifle has not been jarred in any way since setup except for the three shots.

Terrible product

by Patrick1151, from BC, Canada Written on October 29, 2021
I bought a new savage axis 6.5 creedmore this fall and it came with the weaver 3x9x40 scope. It’s terrible, shooting way high and I cannot adjust it down. I’ve tried several things including mounting it on my older savage axis 30-06 which also came with a similar weaver scope. Nothing is working.

Weaver 3x9x40 waterproof scope, came with Savage Axis

by Byron - Fleet Farm purchase, from WI, United States Written on August 30, 2021
Wanted a new hunt rifle for my 10-year old who just completed hunter safety. Narrowed our choices down to Mossberg Patriot and Savage Axis, as both were base price rifles and both came with a scope. The guy at fleet farm counter said "get the Axis, it comes with a Weaver scope, which are good".

Wrong. At least for the cheap scope on this rifle; maybe the $400 dollar Weavers are okay.

This 3-9 x 40 waterproof scope was supposed to be bore sighted from Savage. I did not even get a full box of 20 put through this Savage Axis and the hairs were moving all over. On the 18th cartridge the glass inside of the scope, nearest your eye, came completely loose causing the view to get squished down to a football shape. The outer waterproof glass was still in place, but inside was a loose/rotating glass medallion.

Here's the best part (or worst part?); the store wont take it back, I have to contact Weaver. Weaver says to ship it to their repair location in Overland Park, and not only do I have to pay to ship it there but I have to pay 10 dollars inside the package for them to ship it back. All because I bought the Savage with a junk scope on it.
*BTW... the scope is stamped with "Made in China". Nice job WEaver… NOT!

I wont even waste my time... they'll probably send me another JUNK scope.

(btw the Savage rifle shoots well... I'm keeping that)
Pros:
  • Came with gun
Cons:
  • broke on first use - do not buy
Best Used for:
  • Best use: paper weight (but scratch off Made In China so you dont offend your American buddies)

Disappointed

by Rock, from ON, Canada Written on February 9, 2021
I purchased this nice looking rifle package in .308 in 2020. Shot 20 rounds to sight it in before my deer hunt and it grouped very well! While hunting though, I focused or zoomed my sight a few times and for some stupid reason the scope now won't focus past X4. Really! Why put a scope on a rifle if it can't do a basic function. Weaver, "you got some explaining to do"!

Nice optics!

by Joe1, from kent, United Kingdom Written on February 9, 2021
Small light and good for British weathet, its waterproof, which really helps here, nice green coated optics are v clear to my eyes, nice finger adjustable turrets, hold on target well. Not too heavy and modern dull finish which I like. Nice scope without slending Nikon money.
Pros:
  • Light. clear optics
Cons:
  • none so far
Best Used for:
  • Target, hunting

It’ll yeet

by Dubhugger, from AL, United States Written on January 22, 2021
This scope came on a savage 270. It was bore sighted and on paper when I got it. After hitting groups at 100 yard I switched it out for a vortex however, the weaver having provided good results on the 270 went right into an ar build I had. It drives tacks on the AR. It didn’t have the reach I wanted for the 270 but for a sub 300 yard buffered gun...she won’t disappoint.

Not worth anything

by Bear, from TX, United States Written on January 12, 2021
Came with the Savage Axis 243.Took my son out Christmas morning to sight it in. Shot at 50 yards. Group was tight so I went to make the adjustments up and left and he shot and didn’t move. Same group(but tight) Try to make the adjustments again . Same old same old. Then I adjust 24 clicks up and 30 clicks left for the fun of it. Same group (still tight). In short the adjustment settings didn’t move it one cm!!

Terrible product

by Hertran, from CA, United States Written on December 11, 2020
Purchased rifle from Savage axis xp. It came with Weaver 3-9×40. Took it to the range shot about 40 rounds worked fine. Took it back to the range and shot about 16 rounds the the scope broke. The cross hairs dropped and tilted about 30 degrees. Ruined my day. Do not buy this scope.

Good results

by Sluggo, from NE, United States Written on May 17, 2020
I bought the Savage Axis from Wal-Mart in a 270 wooden stock. Sighting in took 3 rounds...scope is not top of the line, but I was surprised at the results. 4th round was dead on at 200 yards. So, I was planning on replacing but will keep it for now. Usual hunting is under 250 yards, so not too worried.
