Legacy Reviewer's Review of Weaver K-4 Classic 4x38mm Dual-X Rifle Scope

I bought this for my beater/guest gun. I like it more than the Leupold on my nice gun. I quickly noticed one thing about the Weaver: When you look through the scope, you see a thick black ring around the edge. This is exactly the same as what you see looking through a Nightforce. I did some research and found out Nightforce glass (and other internal parts) are made by the same Japanese factory that makes nicer Weavers, Light Optical Works. So, this appears to me to be the same glass as a Nightforce. I will be buying the Weaver Super Slam soon, and maybe more later. Two other great things about this scope: (1) The low-light capability is pretty amazing. You can see better at night through this scope than you can with the naked eye. If you have a half moon or better, you can easily use this scope at night. (2) The black ring allows you to avoid parallax. I put this on a bypod looking at tree branches 350 yards away. If you move your head around, the black ring gets thrown out of whack before the crosshairs move on the target. So, as long as your black ring is even all the way around, your crosshairs are centered -- and it is easy to keep the black ring even. Awesome!
Pros: $1,500-scope glass for $130
Cons: Weaver does not offer custom-bullet-drop dials, illuminated reticles and so on.
