Legacy Reviewer's Review of Wiley X Rout Bifocal RX Prescription Sunglasses / Goggles - Climate Control Series

I was pretty excited to be able to order these with a bifocal lens option. I have worn WileyX non-prescription glasses for years for motorcycling and shooting. I ordered the Rout because of both the bifocal option and the foam insert option. (I have worn numerous sunglasses and various with foam inserts before.)

They came in and looked nice. Fit well, but once you take out the foam insert, unless you have a Neanderthal brow, sunlight (a lot of it) shoots through the top of the bridge of your nose rendering the sunglasses nearly worthless . . . Why wear sunglasses with sunlight shooting through the upper bridge right into the inside corner of your eyes? Otherwise, you must use the removable foam insert 100% of the time. Order a second foam insert, because the foam will wear out quickly.

These are the largest frame WileyX makes, and therefore the largest with bifocal possibility. If you never want to ride, fish, shoot without the insert, you will be fine. Otherwise avoid these glasses if you think you might want to wear them without the foam insert.

Worst of all, I made the mistake of ordering from Opticsplanet with a progressive bifocal . . . +2.50 in each eye. I was charged for the bi-focal option, but mine came with the right Rx, but no bi-focal . . . What a run around aI got from optics planet! I called and was hung up on 11 times before ever speaking to anyone . . . As soon as aI made it through the que to number 1 customer waiting, the ring came to transfer me which resulted in an automated hang up on their side.

On the 12th time on the second, I finally got a live CSR. I explained my predicament . . . Wrong lenses--right distance vision, but no bi-focal. Since the WileyX are ordered through Opticsplanet not from Opticsplanet) the glasses are then ground (lenses) to the RX inserted and shipped directly from WileyX from the factory, I asked that simply new lenses (not a whole new frame) be prepared correctly and shipped to me. "Not possible" the CSR said. I would need to send everything back to a Opticsplanet (not WileyX), then a Opticsplanet would order new lenses and put them in for me and then mail them back to me. "How long?I asked? The CSR answered, "No idea."

The CSR then verified my email address and that he would send me an RMA and shipping info by email . . The CSR said that I should expect to receive the RMA authorization email between 1 hour and 24 hours. That was last Thursday morning; it is now Monday afternoon and still no email. I have been trying to call, live chat, sent emails . . . No contact back and aI still have no RMA email 4 1/2 days later.

So, if you want the budge WileyX with no insert (ones I have owned before) can be a great pair of Sunglasses. But I recommend that you consider another source other than Opticsplanet if you want WileyX with a prescription bifocal. I recommend NOT ordering the Rout version unless you plan to wear the insert 100% of the time, unless you have a Neanderthal's brow or want to stuff a little duct tape between the glasses and the top bridge of your nose to keep the sunlight out without the foam inserts in place.
Pros: Great if you are not wearing a bifocal
Cons: The Route are unless without the foam insert; Opticsplanet Customer NO Service
