Good product, but not drop in - Wilson Combat Extended Magazine Release

I started shooting IDPA at a local club recently, and the more I learn about time being such a big factor, the more effort and research I've put into efficiency of movement. I shoot a full size 1911 Colt Competition, and had to slightly reposition to drop the magazine, then, of course, the grip is changed and it sometimes takes time to re acquire a correct grip. Reading dozens of reviews of extended mag releases, this one seemed to be the best for my need, only a small extension, without altering the gun or grip panel. Great reputation for the company of course. Upon arrival, I was surprised to see it did not fit, would barely go into the frame. I called Wilson customer service (busy people, 20 minutes first time, then was disconnected when put on hold, another 25 minutes to get back to someone again). My customer service person was great, said that frequently parts required fitting, to start with very fine sand paper or emory cloth and go a little bit at a time until it fit. He also gave me the number of a retired Wilson gunsmith who had a ton of experience fitting these. I tried on my own, carefully sanding for about 2 hours but no luck, so I called Steve and he advised me to start by coloring the part (at this point the bluing was all gone) with a Sharpie and try to tap it into place with a nylon mallet, and remove metal from the worn spots. This I did and it worked like a charm. Thorough de-greasing and cleaning and cold blue and in it went. Now I can easily drop magazines without having to move my hand, fits fine in my Blade Tech holster, drops mags as it should. End of the day, it's great, but go in forewarned that you may need to do some work on it.
