gb254's Review of XTS AR Cheek Rest Stock
This XTS-106 stock is just what the doctor ordered to get an adjustable cheek rise on an AR-10 I'm using for long range targets.
When first installed, it fit pretty loosely on my Aero M5 lower with Mil-Spec buffer tube. Most noticeable was and up-down slop that really changed my angle of view to the mounted scope.
FIX: I put two 1" wide x 2.5" long layers of gaffer's tape (duct tape would probably work too) on the buffer tube and then slid this stock over it. Be careful not to cut the tape too wide as there are lengthwise ridges inside the stock that will roll/tear the tape when you try to fit it over the tape (learned by experience.) Trimmed the width of the tape down and started at the back of the buffer tube and set two layers of this cloth tape down with good adhesion. It's now a nice tight fit that telescopes snugly. No up-down slop and only minor rotational play that's on par with my higher end stocks that don't have a cheek riser.
Close to perfect for my needs at this price and with a little tinkering. Even though it wasn't range ready out of the box, I still recommend it if you're willing to experiment with an easy fix to tightening up the fit.
