MikeCase's Review of Sightmark Laser Bore Sights

Before I ordered the SightMark Bore Sight, I was unable to get 5.56 rounds on the paper target at the range with my Aimpoint Red Dot Sight. All I could see was dust but I had no idea where the bullets were going. I then decided to stop shooing , save my ammo, and look into a better sighting method. I then decided to try the BoreSight. The BoreSight saved me a lot of ammunition as well as time, grief, and aggravation. Once I sighted in my Aimpoint with the BoreSight, my bullets were hitting about two inches low and to the left of my point of aim. This allowed me to perfectly zero this rifle with about five rounds and 3-5 clicks of my elevation and windage adjusters. This BoreSight was the perfect answer to my zeroing of my Red Dot sight. That said, it is worthy to let you know, you will probably not be able to use this tool in the bright sun outdoors over 10 yards. This might make it really hard to sight in an unlit cross-hair type scope. I waited until just after sunset and then was then able to see the BoreSight's laser and my red dot perfectly at 30 yards. I read in some reviews that the laser was not perfectly straight. There are six micro screws in three planes for adjustment, but mine was dead-on perfect out-of-the-box. The best way to tell is to simply roll the lit BoreSight on a perfectly flat surface and watch if the laser bounces on the surface. The lack of an on/off switch is an inconvenience, but not a showstopper, and I figure without a switch is one less thing that can go wrong. I also read complaints about hard-to-get batteries, but they are readily available on-line and at Batteries Plus. They are hard to find at regular stores, but what isn't hard to find at regular stores these days. I believe that the 393 is a cross match for the AG5 battery. The batteries that came with my BoreSight were good and will last plenty long to sight in at least 5 rifles. All in all, this tool saved me much aggravation and time and is worth every penny - highly recommended!
