Assures that no unwanted nucleic acids can be brought into the laboratory, avoiding the need for extensive and time consuming culturing procedures. Unlike most slides, which are made from optically clear glass with no rinsing characteristics, Uni-System slides are made from heat-sealed polyethylene and feature a unique double-corner structure that prevents nucleic acid adsorption. Slides are true-cast, making cleavage at the corner (radioactively) extremely difficult, but can be reheated by removing the glass lid (as described in the How to Use section below). Before attempting to stain the slide, it is essential that the outer (glass) surface of the slide be pre-stained with a suitable staining agent. Richard-Allan slides are designed for use with Richard-Allan's Richard-Allan Uni-System slides (see below).
