The Sea-Dog Mushroom Anchor is a vinyl-coated cast iron anchor that is most commonly used for canoes, kayaks or rowboats. Mushroom anchors are named for their compound, or double root, roots. This design provides effective holding power in mud and weedy bottoms. Mushroom anchors often have larger surface area since their roots spread out to a greater area. This design makes them an economical choice for light weight boats. Since they consist of one piece of cast iron, they are particularly suited for use in rough conditions. Mushroom anchors are primarily used in the following: confined waters, piers, small craft, and rowboats. However, they are also suitable for use in rocks, logs, stumps, and in securing anchors. Mushroom anchors also make good use as handholds when appropriate.image
