257 Weatherby ammo, sometimes abbreviated 257 Wby Mag, is a long-distance hunting round. Since it was introduced in 1944 by Weatherby, 257 Weatherby Magnum has gained a reputation for being a flat-shooting and accurate round. Compared to similar rifle ammo like the .30-06 or .270 Winchester, 257 Weatherby ammo experiences considerably less bullet drop. Yet, the cartridge has a relatively small bullet. Although it isn't a big-game round, it's highly effective for medium game.
This 257 Magnum cartridge was based on the British-born .375 H&H big game hunting round, but it uses a much smaller bullet. Nonetheless, 257 Weatherby still packs a punch.
