What is FFP in rifle scope?

An FFP rifle scope is a First Focal Plane rifle scope. What does that mean? Basically, in a Second Focal Plane rifle scope, usually called an SFP scope, the reticle size doesn’t change as you move through the magnification levels from high magnification down to lower magnification.

An FFP reticle grows larger at high magnification and smaller at lower magnification. This makes a First Focal Plane reticle preferable for long-range shooting. This is why FFP scopes cost more than SFP scopes, but most shooters find the benefits outweigh the cost.
