Disposable plastic cassettes hold tissue specimens during processing, embedding, and storage. Most convenient for cassette labeling instruments, as the lids are packaged separately in the case. They are molded from a special, high-density acetal polymer and are completely resistant to the chemical action of histological solvents. Cassettes keep specimens safely submerged in liquid while the efficient flow-through slots maximize fluid exchange and ensure proper drainage.

A special hinge holds the base and lid together and allows cassettes to be opened and closed as often as necessary. The lid can be removed and reinserted easily without the danger of specimen loss.
