These constant temperature freezers serve as low level alarm systems for vaccines and biological materials requiring consistent low freezer temperatures. Chemical and physical changes in the refrigerator environment, such as ice crystallization, require that the freezer be manually checked on a regular basis. If the freezer is not found to be at the required level, the freezer will alarm and the user will be notified and the freezer will be returned to its required level. With the addition of a suitable sensor, the low level alarm will continue to sound even if the actual freezer level is above the alarm level. This feature may be overridden by other alarms with similar settings.
