On the basis of transient isotopic labeling, a single TE buffered medium can be used for batch cultivations of isotopically labeled bacteria and for isolating stable epitopes from environmental samples. The TE buffered medium can then be used for the production of secondary isotopes from environmental samples. Since the labeling is done at the time of production, there is no need for a special production method. The medium can be reused indefinitely. The regenerated buffered medium is used by plants to produce bioenergy, a food additive, and a veterinary pharmaceutical. Organisms that cause isotope escape have been determined. These organisms are slow to start up and must be carefully monitored during the incubation period to prevent the emergence of clostridia. It is also possible that the sorp-tomeplate may not be suitable for the production of some isotopes.
