The Orion-TR DC-DC converters convert a nominal 12V secondary battery (such as a 'Starter' or 'Charger' battery) into a 12V charge (for example the one used to supply constant voltage to a 12V TV camera input port). The DC-DC converters allow the user to connect the positive side of the battery (for example for operating a 12V TV camera) to a 12V secondary battery (for charging a 12V starter or for an operating back-up battery). The unit can be used in a stand-alone system, or connected to a battery via an AC input (for example the engine block connector) and a low current (for example the engine run/stop switch). The units are designed with a remote on-off. With the remote on-off the Orion-TR enables the user to float the secondary battery. There is no need for earthing as the system is fully isolated from the negative battery. The input stage of the converter is designed as a fly-back, so no earthing is necessary. The flyback effect means that the unit will drop the low battery sense (for example, when driving a car with a start button) and will not recharge the lead acid battery.
