When you add a magnifier to your platform, you can use the accuracy of the red dot on medium- and long-distance targets. Vortex Red Dot Sight Magnifiers and 3X Red Dot Scope Magnifiers that flip out of the way allow you to use your red dot without the magnifier at a moment's notice. For information to help you with your choice, browse our Red Dot Sight How-To Guides. Or contact our product specialists for answers to your questions. Is a Magnifier Worth It On a Red Dot?

Magnifiers are extremely useful in a variety of situations, so whether or not one is worth it depends on how you shoot and the ranges of your targets. For example, if you regularly switch between short-range and medium-range situations, a magnifier is the perfect addition to your setup. Even if you're not a tactical operator engaging in CQB shooting situations, you can make use of a magnifier for practicing at different ranges. And, since you can flip it to the side at any point, it doesn't interfere with regular shooting.

Does Red Dot Size Increase With Magnifier?

Technically, a magnifier enlarges the red dot reticle in the optic. However, the reticle does not appear any larger than normal, because the entire image in the optic is magnified by the same amount. This causes the reticle to scale with the rest of the image.

Should the Red Dot Go in Front or Behind the Magnifier?

The magnifier should always go behind the red dot sight on your firearm. This means the magnifier should be what you are looking through to see the red dot. Putting it the other way won't actually magnify the image that you see through the red dot sight, which makes it useless.
