This wide-mouth screw-thread vial is recommended for use with most vacuum devices, including hoods and fuming cabinets. Closure depressions are usually formed at the top of the vial, and should be tapered down to close. Opening should be small enough to permit a thorough shaking; however, care should be taken that no liquid or powder is drawn into the vial neck. Closure depressions should be large enough to permit withdrawal of any liquid, including vapors or gases, without bursting. Avoid over-tightening by applying a cleaning agent or reducing the sample tube to the neck under vacuum. The proper size should be chosen to assure a good hydrostatic seal. Closure depressions are usually made of conformal coated or borosilicate glass.
