The 5.5 mm Natural Elastic Polymer (neoprene) stopper is supplied as standard with all new VWR Autoclavable Stoppers, however, these new stoppers have an elastomer lining and are ideally suited for use with flexible jars and flasks with necks that have been widened. The urethane lining ensures that the stoppers will not leak, even with active leak detection systems, and provides added comfort during the blowing stage of distillation procedures. The urethane stoppers utilize a polyisoprene (P/U) bulb and a polypropylene ground seal to prevent leakage during the blowing stage. The stoppers bows to form a perfect seal whether a gasket or no closure is used. Before autoclaving, warm the stoppers slightly by applying a flame to the back of the stoppers. After autoclaving, warm the stoppers slightly over heat until they expand and then blow out any air bubbles. After autoclaving, warm the stoppers slightly over heat until they become fluid and remove any remaining plastic from the stoppers. Then cool to room temperature and place in a water bath. Cool to room temperature before use. Chemically inert, stoppers are easily removed.
