Whatman Polycap TC Filters, 6714-7502 Polycap 75 are most commonly used with Gas Chromatographs and other commercial equipment for generating colored / transparent solutions. Filters can be placed in contact with the solution through a settling bag and centrifuged to remove the colloids. This provides two advantages: (1) the glass fiber filter allows the solution to travel through the solid attached thereon; and (2) the glass fiber filter allows the solution to travel through the solid rather than through a sponge or similar object, reducing the likelihood of sample degradation. The disadvantage of using glass fibers is that they leave a residue on the filter when the solution is scoured and, therefore, reusable. The disadvantages of using a filter are (1) the need to replace the Whatman filter more frequently and, (2) the cost of the PTFE filter element decreases.![]()
