Product Info for VWR Grade 415 Filter Paper, Qualitative, Crepe 28320-201
Heavy-duty unlined sheet filters can be used for the initial filtration in the preconcentration and concentration stage of a process. Grading of the sheet indicates degree of purification required; more stringent purification requirements may be required for applications involving higher order partial pressures, such as those encountered during the concentration of a salt-water brine. Because of the fine porosity, water passes through the sheet relatively quickly with minimal loss of pressure. The sheet is saturated with water and becomes progressively thinner as the filtrate travels through the paper. The paper becomes increasingly thinner as the filtrate passes through. As a result, the paper becomes less absorbent and, in some cases, paperfibers are retained through a process known as back-bar filtration.
