High performance meets tradition with Super-X Rifle ammunition. Since 1922, X provides the ammunition backbone for all Winchester handguns. The famous "Super-X" name is recognized by hunters and shooters as the "pinnacle of Winchester excellence". Since its inception, the Winchester X has been closely associated with the likes of Winchester, Hornady, Marlin, Ely, and Winchester-Fox. For years, X has stood for "extra ordinary" or "eXtraordinary". X is for "extra ordinary" in the form of the XLR "extra ordinary" round that introduced the famous "double X" notching on X and T steel projectiles. Now, X is a "powerful" round that not only delivers powerful stopping power, but "forces" a "powerful" level of stopping power. The projectile itself is a "powerful" soft lead round that actually penetrates deeper with its two-piece hollow point design and bi-metal jacket combine to deform the lead alloyed bullet to a round with exceptional expansion. A heavy-based bullet, X is a lead round with a double-penetrating white phosphorescent "X" on the base of the bullet and double-tapered jacket mouth. A lead alloyed bullet of 64-grains in weight, with a contoured jacket and double-metalled case, all of which provide the gold standard for bullet dependability.
