So much improvement!

by Sasquatch, from United States, VA Written on February 24, 2015
I bought this to replace a Russian spotting scope I had won in a raffle. I can't believe how much I was missing! The image is exponentially better with the Leupold scope. I'm using this to be a spotter for my wife in long range competitions and this should give me a break and improve a bit of domestic tranquility in my (admittedly weird) household.

The focus ring turns easily, the magnification ring less so. It's not terrible, like my Russian glass. The built-in sunshade slides in & out easily, but I haven't needed it yet. The case seems quite sturdy and is a welcome addition. Others have complained about the tripod and while it isn't great, it does the job. There is a soft case sized for the spotting scope inside the case that comes with its own neck strap. It's a tight fit and it tends to pull the lens cap off when removing the scope from the soft case. But these are really nitpicky sorts of items....

amazing optic

by Tommy, from United States, OH Written on February 22, 2015
Great scope build quality. The optical quality and clarity is amazing. Tripod is OK but bracket that mounts to the optic is a little shakey if not wrenched on and could use improvement. Overall great product....
Pros:
  • Construction
  • astetics
  • optics clarity
Cons:
  • tripod mounting bracket
Best Used for:
  • Range use
  • wildlife observation

good price, lightweight, poor tripod

by ronin, from United States, FL Written on January 16, 2015
Title sums it up. This scope is very light and delivered good clarity at the range. np seeing .30 holes at 100m outdoor range, but that's not too demanding. Didn't get to test it further.
The case is nice, but don't count on the tripod-- buy a good one separately....
Pros:
  • light weight
  • price/performance
Cons:
  • tripod

Excellent Scope! Leupold never disappoints.

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, VA Written on July 5, 2014
I recently bought this based on my experience with Leupold riflescopes and the reviews of others for this scope and was not disappointed. This is an awesome scope! I could see both .223 and .308 hits very clearly on a target at 200 yards. In fact, I will soon be trying it out at a 300 yard range.
Pros: Great optics, easy to use...

Great scope, flimsy tripod

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, TN Written on October 22, 2013
Excellent clarity and a great value if you're looking for a midrange product. Much better than the $40 Barska I have, but not as clear as a much more expensive Swarovski would be. However, the tripod is very flimsy & shaky. In fact, my Barska's tripod is much more stable. Nice case and cover.
Pros: clarity
Cons: tripod...

Great scope

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, CO Written on July 20, 2013
The optics are clear and and easy to use. I can see my target clearly at 300 yards and my see my impacts from my 308. My eyes aren't what they used to be and this scope is worth the money for up to 300 yards.
Pros: Clarity and power...

Bought based on price to be used with a .223 and .308 at 100-300 yards. Above 40x clarity falls off rapidly, difficult to see .223 holes at 300 yards. 40x is the best setting, can see .223 at 100-200 and .308 to 300
Pros: Price, Leupold warranty, Optics Planet service
Cons: Becomes fuzzy above 40x...

Decent scope but...

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on March 6, 2013
This scope performs reasonably well, especially up to 40x. BUT BEWARE! The eye relief spec (26.4-24.0 mm) on vendor sites and the Leupold catalog are wrong. The specs that come with the scope say 20.0-15.0 mm...a pretty big difference. I called Leupold and they verified that ALL THEIR SALES MATERIAL IS WRONG and the correct value is on the box. Many other specs are wrong too, including the weight (62 oz, not 37 oz). Leupold brags about their American quality control and inspection of these Chinese-made scopes, yet admitted many of them had shipped with no serial numbers on them. Some quality control. Mine was one of the ones without a number, making it impossible to register it on the Leupold web site. Leupold verified that my scope was not a knockoff (of which there are many), was indeed their product, but with no serial number.

I'm sending this back and buying from a company that has their s*** together on quality control.

And BTW, the eye relief is insufficient for those of us who were glasses except at the very lowest 20x setting. There are far better choices out there.

Pros: Excellent image, little chromatic aberration
Cons: Eye relief MUCH shorter than specs say, weight heavier...

Excellent view images at 50 yards. If the focus knob is either at the side or at the bottom of the scope then it will be much better.
Pros: excellent view image
Cons: hand is blocking part of the view finder when using the focus knob...
