Is this mil spec? Do you need an adjustment gas block or any recommendation what weight of buffer to use? Thanks — 3 Answers

This BCG varies from mil-spec in the finish. It will work with the standard carbine or rifle buffers. It will work with heavier buffers up to and including the H3 buffer, but that will depend heavily on the overall barrel length, gas port diameter, and gas system length.

The geometry is mil-spec, but the weight is not. This BCG uses a grade 5 titanium carrier which is significantly lighter weight than steel. You do need an adjustable gas block to use as it is intended. Tune your adjustable gas block so your brass ejects at approximately 4:30 and you will achieve a reduction in felt recoil. Using a heavier buffer instead of using an adjustable gas block simply results in the weight being added back in.

I am adding a couple of oz back with the H2, no adj-gas on a Mk18. Ejects 4:00 with zero malfunctions. H2, Tubbs flat wire rifle spring, carbine extension. Does not pick up a round with Carbine of H buffer. Sprinco Red + H2 fine and ejects 3:00. Tubbs rifle +H2 at 4:00. Tubbs + H2 + Surefire Mini2 at 2:00-2:30.
