I love the basic simplicity behind this handguard... it is a logical approach to a key component of a rifle.
This handguard is well designed for function; the only "Bells & Whistles" facet may simply be the ATLAS lock-up, but it is also very pragmatic because it provides a low profile "flow" from the handguard to the upper and lower receivers. This enables a nice feel in the hand if you need a grip closer to the receiver, which is unlike many other brands/designs that have an uncomfortable protrusion at the base of the handguard. And the ATLAS removes the issues of timing your barrel nut.
A couple notes exist though, as I have seen from other reviews across the web. First is that it is a Mil-Spec handguard, so it may not fit many designer "billet" upper receivers because the anti-rotation tabs are flanges that have extended coverage (protrusion) at the front of the upper receiver. Though this feature also mates up well with basic ejection port rod/pin. A second, and quite minor, feature is the front edge of the picatinny rail is not well tapered. This will be evident when using a back-up iron sight.
I would definitely recommend this handguard for those who want a quality handguard that focus on the basics, not frills.
With all that said, I would love to get a "lightened" version that would be absent the full picatinny rail section.
P.S. The 12 inch version, with a 12.5 inch barrel, gives an excellent flow to muzzle devices like the Tyrant CNC Muzzle Brake & Blast ...
