Blackcloud's Review of Burris Xtreme Tactical 8-40x50mm 34 mm Tube First Focal Plane (FFP) Rifle Scope

Price was good, even though it was made in the phillipines. The illuminated reticle is totally useless as it only barely illuminates on level 9-11, even though it has 11 levels, and only with the objective cap closed and in a dark room can you see them at all. The reticle also is almost useless at 8 power as it is so small it it very hard to see, and at higher power the reticle becomes useless as you lose the MOA graduations you need for elevation compensation because the reticle was not positioned in the upper second quadrant of the scope to make use of the reticle design at higher power which the scope was intended. The elevation and windage turrets turn so hard that leather faced gloves, or a pair of channelocks should have come with the scope to aid in turning them, and thats at room temperature. I'm sure in colder weather it will be even harder. At the range with my shooting buddies we compared the optics with thier scopes, Nightforce, leupold, and Valdada, and the Burris paled in comparison, I guess thats why it cost 1/2 as much as thiers. As far as durability goes, the jury is still out on that as I have not used it enough to honestly say.
Pros:
  • Price
Cons:
  • everything else
Best Used for:
  • 600 to 1000 yard target shooting
