Great comp, but fitting may be required

Written on Jan 03, 2025

This comp has a simple yet effective design for significantly reducing recoil and muzzle flip in full or commander sized 1911 pistols that are not equipped with threaded barrels. It simply replaces the barrel bushing, so theoretically it could be dropped-in within two minutes if all dimensions work for your pistol. I have a Springfield TRP Carry, which uses a 4.25" barrel. The inside diameter of the bushing perfectly fits my barrel with no play whatsoever - - just a Smooth sliding action. Unfortunately, the outer diameter of the bushing was slightly too large to fit into my slide out of the box without some fitting. This can be a bit challenging, as it must be accomplished without reducing the size of the locking lug which protrudes from the bushing. Fitting this comp wasn't a difficult process per se, but it does require time and patience. I used needle files for the first stage of the fitting. Once I could insert the bushing into the slide with some effort, I used a Dremel tool with rubber polishing point to polish out all tool marks left by the files, leaving a mirror-like surface. This gave me a perfect fit where insertion could be accomplished without effort or friction, yet there was no hint of play or looseness. Every gun will be different, with Government or Mil-spec models generally having more play out of the box, and will therefore will be less likely to require fitting, but more expensive 1911s designed for greater accuracy out of the box will have tighter toleran
