Simply Excellent!

Written on May 30, 2019

The KonusPro 2-6x28mm Illuminated SFP Mil-Dot reticle scope has far exceeded my expectations! Easy to zero. Easy to adjust the zoom. Easy to acquire the target. And the glass is clear. This scope has held zero since I installed it over 6 months ago and after taking to the range on several shooting / load testing occasions. (This scope is mounted on a .44 Mag Ruger Carbine.) Other perks to note are: (a) the built in bubble level, (b) the etched reticle, and (c) the ability to illuminate the reticle if the circumstances dictate the need. I cannot wait to take this rifle/scope deer hunting next fall.

If I had but one upgrade request for Konus on the scope, it would be for them to provide the ability to ‘reset zero’ with the adjustment knobs.

Off-Balance ... Follow up

Written on May 25, 2019

I tested and tried adjusting this scope over the past a two months. Presently the POI is still ‘right’ of POA by at 2 inches. Today I retested everything again and this is what I’ve determined.
(A) The base tends to lean right if tightened down hard, but can be corrected.
(B) But the worst part I is that even when the base is leveled evenly with the gun, the scope itself leans heavily to the right! The scope does not seat squarely (level) in its base plate.

What I’ve done to correct for the primary issue “B” above, is to sand away material from the left side of the base scope groove. This is now moving the scope more to the left and into balance in its base mount. I may have to sand away more material on the left side of the base scope mount to get the scope fully level with the base & gun. A whole LOT of unnecessary work for a new scope!

The only reason I did not return this scope initially, is because I like its core features so much: etched T-recticle, fixed 4x magnification, Red/Blue illumination, and clear glass.

UTG should attach this scope base flat to a normal flat rail base with a quick-release.

Off-Balance

Written on Apr 26, 2019

After mounting this scope and taking to the range to zero on my Marlin 33CS, I found that I had to 'peg' the windage control knob all the way to the left just to get my shots within 2 inches of center at 25 yards! I took the scope home and dismounted it. Verified again that the rail was balanced on the rifle...YES. Then I dismounted the scope from its own mounting bracket and tried to verify that the mounting bracket was level... NOT while sitting by itself on a level surface. So I mounted just the scope bracket onto the rifle rail to make sure it was balanced... still NO. I loosened it and tightened back up the screws... Still NO... off-balance. I had to use a emory paper to sand away some material from one side of the clamp mounts in order to get the bracket to mount balanced. Then I verified that the scope itself was balanced... Heck NO! That was even worse. I had to use more emory paper to sand and sand to get the mounting surface and scope level. Then I mounted the scope to its mounting bracket and then mounted the bracket to the gun rail and low and behold, it was out of balance again! WT...?? Turned out that the mounting channel slot did not marry up to the scope mounting platform evenly, preventing the scope from screwing down level onto the scope mounting channel. Back to sanding. Finally, I removed enough material from one side of the mounting channel slot so that the scope mounted balanced. Now the scope appears to be balanced on this rifle. I plan to t
