Solid Grip - Stands the Test of Time

Written on Jan 07, 2021

I have had this grip since 2011 and over time it has moved from gun to gun. This thing is as solid as they come. No need to pay three times the price, unless you WANT a Troy Combat Grip which I also own and which is equally awesome. Once its torqued on and with the help of blue Loctite it sits in place for as long as you need it. Doesn't come loose, doesn't wiggle. Very comfortable when positioned exactly as you want it on your gun. The price is very reasonable and the quality is outstanding. Magpul delivers on things like that with great consistency.

Solid Built, Great Quality Glass & Dot, Reasonably Priced

Written on Jan 02, 2021

I purchased this sight as a backup and for short-range engagement using a 45-degree offset mount. I also have astigmatism which makes the use of red dots impossible or at least impractical as a primary sight. That said, I tried Vortex, Sig Sauer, and other similarly priced micro dots, and was surprised to find that the Sightmark Mini Shot M-Spec FMS Reflex Sight proved to be completely usable for my eyes. True, the dot is not crystal clear and a tiny bit fuzzy because of my astigmatism, but it nonetheless it is a dot. All other brands I tried appeared to me like large starbursts and were therefore unusable. Additionally, I like the protective steel cage around the sight glass. It’s very similar to the shield of EOTech sights. None of the other sights I tried out had this additional protective feature. Overall, I am very pleased and have already ordered another one to serve the same purpose, which is as secondary sight as well as for close-range. Great product!

Fantastic Sight w/One Caveat

Written on Jan 09, 2020

I asked my wife to get me this Vortex Razor AMG UH-1 Holographic Red Dot Sight with the 3x magnifier for Christmas and she did, which was nice. As I opened my surprise on Christmas morning and saw this beauty, I was in awe. The sight is very sturdy and easy to figure out even without the manual (which by the way is written very clearly and concisely). Once I mounted both the sight and the magnifier and started looking through both, I noticed the clarity of the glass which is simply outstanding. However, here comes the caveat, which really has nothing to do with the quality of these products at all. If you have astigmatism like I do, I highly recommend that you go to your local gun shop or show and check out this product before you buy. Reason is that even when I focused on my target rather than the holographic reticle, the reticle appeared to me like a giant starburst rather than a crisp and clear image. I tried this aiming exercise with glasses, contact lenses (which I usually wear when shooting), and without an corrective lenses. In all cases, the reticle remained fuzzy even when I looked right past it and focused on the target. So, while I absolutely appreciate the product, I decided to return it to Opticsplanet and get an LPVO with an etched and illuminated reticle - problem solved.

Good Bang for Your Buck

Written on Jan 09, 2020

I bought two of these Streamlight ProTac Rail-Mount HLX LCS Series lights along with the Cloud Defensive Light Control System, and I am extremely satisfied. I had been considering the Surefire Scout M600 series prior to my purchase, but thought that these Streamlights are a great alternative and half the cost. I deliberately avoid using the word "value" here because some people might think that this would imply a lesser quality, which is not at all what I am saying. I have owned a Streamlight TLR-2 for one of my handguns since 2011, and it's still running at full light intensity and laser accuracy, even after thousands of rounds through the gun. That convinced me to stay with the Streamlight brand and, so far, I am very pleased. I would recommend potential buyers to view some great in-depth reviews on YouTube by the Mrgunsngear and SageDynamics channels (among others) to see the light being tested.
