GREAT viewing during the day or low light with NO external light sources such as hunting.
SUPER HORRIBLE at night if there is more than one light source. Many many halos and the factory warranty folks say its been checked on the collimator and its normal? They did suggest angling the view....well what if their is lots of lights like say...in a city environment or several street lights with cards etc? MORE halos and they move.
So if your using them during the day. Check
Low light conditions on a hunting trip, Check
using them for surveillance ops or anywhere that has more than one light source in the field of view....NO WAY, do not buy.
This light is great. it casts a wide beam but also has a distance punch as well. Bought it because it is rechargeable via USB plug and can also take CR123 batts in an emergency. Very clear with no artifacts or distortions. WHITE LED is great. Mode changes are usable and I set mine to start low and go high. I use mine for working on aircraft and doing walk around inspections. Fully illuminates the tail on a 747. As for going into the woods.....its a daylight make . You will not regret this light on a camping trip for sure.
Only issue is this: IF you depend constant availability of that light or at leastt a warning that the battery is getting low, then this is probably not for you. While the beam is always steady and bright, it WILL QUIT when the battery is depleted. No run down, no step down, no warning....just STOPS.
Now for my purposes its not an issue as I can just reach into my tool box or backpack and grab the spare battery. If your a first responder or NEED a warning that the battery is low, then buy the Fenix UC35 which is what I will be buying next for my hunting and camping light this light will stay at work. That light is essentially the same with a warning and step down. Stream-light if your reading these reviews...wake up. Pelican and Fenix beat ya to the punch on this one with the warning and step down.
In closing. great light, no complaints from me personally for my intended use, but passing along known short comings for those that need
Bought this to try it out. After the initial charge up used it to charge an iphone 6S that was down to 35% and it filled it up to 100% in about 1 hour. Still had 3 dots left on the meter.
This will be used mostly when camping to charge up USB powered lights etc, which it also works on. In fact I would say any thing that can be charged by USB is game.
When I am not camping it will be used to have as a standby charge for our earthquake kit. The manufacturer says it will hold a full charge for up to 2 months or more.
Buying this on a whim and as a test, I am pleased to say it works and is a usable gadget for its intended purpose
it casts a far beam and useful width. ZERO artifacts to distract during usage and it lasts much much longer than the previous halog bulbs. I lost interest in the testing after 4 hours CONSTANT on. No complaints in usage and in fact i LOVE the upgrade. Use this at work on aircraft and it does it job. nuff said.
The upgrade process is easy and straight forward. Person with normal mechanical skills should have NO ISSUES following the directions. LEDS rock. I am upgrading all my lights to LED.
Not much to say here. Its a FACTORY battery and it works the way it was designed. Perfect backup power and second spare. I keep it charged and in the truck with the supplied cap in place. Past purchases of this type battery have lasted 6 years and counting. YMMV based on number of charge and discharge cycles. I fully discharge my batts normally once a week in normal usage 3-6 hours per night shift at the airport.
First off, this is a FLOOD light. If you need a search light or more correctly a lite that casts a beam further then but the OTHER upgrade offered.
While this is a flood light it still cast a beam pretty far. In practical terms this is probably the most useful option for 90 percent of the usage this light will see. We use it as an emergency light when it sits in its cradle in the garage and also for camping when we take it along and charge it in the truck.
The upgrade was easy and we set the jumper pin for LONGER life VS Brighter Light. Again in real usage the difference is negligible and its best to have longer life in 90 percent of usage. After the upgrade i set it out and let it run till burnout and it lasted approx 12 HOURS! Thats what an LED upgrade does for this light!
if you have lower than average mechanical ability, don't try this without some help. its easy peasy for anyone with basic mechanical skills.
