Great Charging Handle

Written on Mar 18, 2025

I bought one of these to try and liked it so much I have already ordered a couple more. You get much improved leverage and grip without the oversized snaggy shape of an ambi-handle. Price is reasonable too.

It Just Works!

I bought this for my first AR-9 build since I had a couple spare lowers and didn’t want to spend money on a dedicated 9mm lower. I did also order Stern’s Glock compatible bolt just to be on the safe side.

I have had it in and out of a receiver two or three times with zero variance in performance. I have perhaps 250 rounds using this adapter and have had zero misfeeds or malfunctions.

I decided to leave mine in its own receiver and installed a bullet button as an extra lock to prevent accidentally pressing the traditional mag release. I actually like the location of the mag release on the adapter since it is literally straight forward of the trigger guard.

The Only Bullet I Use For My Hornet

Written on Jan 26, 2025

I have been shooting the .22 Hornet for 47 years, since I got my old Savage 340C as payment for digging a drain-field when I was 18. Since then I have owned many different .22 Hornet rifles. The only bullets I have ever used have been the 45 and 40 grain Sierras. Don't let the appearance deceive you. They don't look high tech or fancy but their thin jackets and soft nose yield explosive results on varmints from Sage Rats all the way up to Coyotes. Yet they are still legal to humanely take deer with head and neck shots (in expert hands!)

Great General Purpose Rifle Scope

Written on Aug 28, 2024

This is my third Crossfire II AO 4-12 optic. The view through it is bright and clear and I like the relatively simple dead hold reticle. The scope works well with anything from .22LR to .22 Mag and .17HMR. I find it easy to figure windage and holdover without having to resort to turret adjustments. However the click adjustments are precise and repeatable if needed. This scope also seems to work well on a .300 Blackout rifle where bullet drop comes into play when switching from supersonic to suppressed loads.

I prefer a front focus versus side focus parallax adjustment in entry to intermediate price range scopes. The simpler internal optics allows the necessity of parallax free shots at any range without the dimming and even yellow blurry view you can get with cheaper side focus scopes.

This is simply a great scope for the money and I hope that Vortex continues to keep them in their line-up as I will keep on buying them.

All the Scope You Need

Written on Jan 26, 2024

This my third Crossfire II 1-4 x 24 scope. What is not to like? You get a true 1x illuminated optic with V-Plex style crosshairs and a very fine center dot that will reach up to 4x. 4x doesn't sound like much but it allows me the precision I need for my .308 rifle without any complicated hash marks and "tacti-cool" reticles that only work with one caliber. The reticle of this optic will work with any rifle you choose to use it with. It is nearly red dot fast to aim at 1x and at 4x it is useful for shooting groups. I run one on an AR .556, one with an AR 300 Blackout and another with an HK clone .308. All have done great for me and hold zero well.

The best part is the bargain price from OP.

Nice Solution for a Shotgun Light

Written on Oct 31, 2022

This is a positive review with a caveat. Check the specs and visit the Streamlight website to download their fact sheet before you order. Above all, check your shotgun's forend to verify it uses a threaded retainer nut before ordering. This product does not fit some later model Mossberg 500's that do not use a retaining nut for the forend. Mossberg uses a no tool clip retainer design on some M500 shotguns that have no provision for retaining the TL Racker forend light assembly.

Having said this, I was wishing I did own the earlier design M500 that uses the retaining nut as I was impressed with both the apparent durability and build quality of Streamlight's TL Racker forend. The light bezel and lens is mounted forward of the integrated dual side switches. Battery compartment is easily serviced from the rear with a coin or screwdriver. I did not have a chance to actually test the LED light as I had to return mine. But I have no doubt it would fill the bill.
