Outstanding 3-prong flash hider

Written on Jul 24, 2018

Very solid flash hider, with over-the-barrel sleeve pre-drilled for being pinned and welded if needed. Comes with crush washer, very nice retail packaging. It's a shame these are no longer made due to a patent dispute. So far, mine has been ping-free.

Good scope for the money

Written on Apr 24, 2018

For the price, this is an excellent entry level LPVO. I'd lean toward the Primary Arms 1-6x24 gen 3 ACSS for about the same price, though, as it has a better reticle, and similar glass quality and warranty. n Both use a 30mm tube, 24mm objective lens, and work quite well on an AR-15, although the eye relief is a bit limiting compared to higher end HD glass scopes, but those cost considerably more as well.

Great buttstock

Written on Apr 19, 2018

The CTR is lightweight, fits tightly to the extension tube, and is comfortable to use, with nice features, like QD sling points. I have this stock installed on a 16" carbine, and it's an outstanding stock at a very reasonable price.

Elftmann trigger pin set

Written on Mar 09, 2018

This is a very well-made, affordable pin set, without the name-tax associated with KNS pins. These pins can be installed and removed with a bullet-tip or small slotted screwdriver in the field without the need for additional tools, which allows swapping of drop-in triggers on the fly. Great design using the motorcycle drive chain style master key to lock the anti-rotation, anti-walk pins in place. They use the plates with a semi-round hole to prevent pins from rotation. Easy to install, and while perhaps not the best looking pin set, they are functional, which is what matters.

Handy tool to have on the bench

Written on Feb 07, 2018

This tool locks into an empty lower receiver magazine well, and straddles the Delta Ring, allowing you to squeeze the two rods together, and pull down, disengaging the delta ring from the existing two-piece hand guard, and allowing installation of a new handguard as needed. The force-exertion rods are covers with a rubberized sleeve to protect your firearm, and are of a girthy, thickness that allows for good application of force. The only issue with using a tool like this, is that the tool can get in the way of removing the lower half of the hand guard, but with a little practice, this isn;t really a problem.

Decent sling, very affordable

Written on Feb 07, 2018

This sling is 1 or 2 point convertible. It's made of a very soft material, with a very wide padded area for carrying your firearm. The ATAC clips are nice for detachment of the sling at either end, if you're not using QD or clips. The sling has numerous places for elastic accessory retention, and a plastic D-ring for attachment of a clipped accessory. The sling has a tri-glide style pull-to-tighten mechanism to cinch up the sling, or release tension on the rifle for stowing it. I have only been using mine for a short time, and while it isn't as nice in my view, as a Vickers sling, it also doesn't cost narly as much. This would be a great option for a first AR-15 owner, looking for an inexpensive sling that can do a little of everything.

Great, comfortable stock

Written on Feb 07, 2018

At 8oz, this stock is light weight. It's a very snug fit on the exte4nsion tube, not allowing for any wobble or movement once locked in place. It isn't difficult to pull the pins down to install the buttstock on the tube, and the lever for adjustments is generously large. There is a lock to prevent accidental depressing of the adjustment lever. This stock has QD mount locations, as well as sling slits at the bottom angled portion, and the rear inner location. The stock has a rubber shoulder pad, and a comfortable angle for a good cheek weld and shoulder/pectoral fitment. This is a great, affordable stock from Magpul, and I'd expect nothing less from this company. The MOE SL and SL-K buttstocks are also great, affordable options to consider.

mil-spec buffer

Written on Feb 07, 2018

This is a standard mil-spec buffer, with removable weights in case you wish to upgrade to tungsten weights later for a heavier buffer. It's nothing flashy, and is typical of the buffers that come with receiver extension tube kits. This part would be better at about $5 cheaper, though. It serves it's function, and there isn't much else to say about it.

Great upgrade to a standard Delta Ring Fore End

Written on Feb 07, 2018

Terrific, more ergonomic handguard, allowing for attachment of M-LOK acessories, such as sling swivel mounts, weapon-mounted lights, vertical hand grips or hand stops, and the like. This non-SL model allows the use of round, or triangular handguard caps, and allows you to leave the A2 sling swivel mounted to the front sight post, instead of requiring that it be removed as on the SL version. It is recommended that if ordering one of these, and installing for the first time, you also consider getting a Delta Ring Tool, for removal of the old handguard, and installation of this new one.

Std Mil-Spec part

Written on Feb 07, 2018

Standard Mil-Spec buffer tube castle nut, or receiver extension tube nut. Threaded smoothly, didn't mar easily, staked well, no issues. When installing, I suggest using some anti-seize, or a drop or two of oil on the threads to ease the threading process and prevent galling of those threads on the lower receiver, the receiver extension tube, and the castle nut itself.
