1911 Government Belt Holster

Written on Jun 27, 2017

This Galco Fletch holster is well constructed and allows my Springfield Armory Range Officer to be carried "cocked and locked" with the retaining strap fastened between the hammer and firing pin. As most leather holsters it was a bit stiff and tight to begin with but is breaking in nicely. Exactly what I was looking for.

S & W 3" Model 60 Holster

Written on Jan 21, 2017

It is difficult to find a holster for the 3" model of the S & W Model 60 .357 magnum. The snub nose holsters are readily available... not so for the 3" model. This leather holster fits my 3" Model 60 perfectly. It is attractive and well made. At first, as with all leather holsters, it is a little tight but it relaxes a bit with use. Good product, good price and good customer service.

Hornady Match Grade Bushing

Written on Jan 07, 2017

These bushings used in a Hornady Match Grade Bushing die appropriately and consistently resize my .308 bolt gun brass necks. I find that Lapua brass tends to "spring back" approximately 0.002" so a .034 bushing will yield a finished outside neck diameter of approximately .036. Other brass may be more/less elastic. The bushings are now offered in more sizes than previously available.

Neck sizeing .308 brass

Written on Jan 07, 2017

I am using this to resize the necks and bump back the shoulders on .308 brass for a Savage bolt gun. Adjust the die to give the proper head space...I bump my bolt gun necks approximately 0.001"...then drop in the appropriate bushing to size the neck and you are ready to go. Careful...if you are bumping the necks back much more than 0.001 you may bulge the cases. I have removed the expander ball for this operation and remember to lightly lube the outside of the neck and shoulder. It seems that Lapua brass will "spring back" about 0.002" therefore I find the .034 bushing results in an outside neck diameter of approximately .036. Other brass may be more/less elastic. You can now order the bushings in more sizes than were previously offered.

Best Long Range Scope for the Money

Written on Dec 20, 2016

This is my second Sightron SIII SS 8-32x56 scope and I think they are the best long range rifle scope "for the money". The second focal plane MOA-2 reticle provides a fine(thin) reticle at the higher magnification ranges so the aim point is not obscured. The glass is very clear at all magnification ranges and the vertical adjustment range is sufficient for long range(1000 yard) shooting. A 10-20 MOA rail is helpful if shooting .308 to 1000 yards. Scope tracks and holds Zero well...all-in-all a great scope. Also, the customer service at Optics Planet is great.

Ruger Precision Rifle Optic Mount

Written on Aug 31, 2016

Used this JP Enterprises One Piece Flat Top 34mm mount for my Leupold VX 6 scope on a Ruger Precision Rifle. This rifle already has 20 MOA of elevation built into the rail to accomodate longer ranges. Have run about 100 rounds through this set-up and am very well pleased. Holds zero and seems to be a very rugged mount.

Aimpoint PRO Red Dot

Written on Feb 26, 2016

Purchased this Aimpoint PRO to replace an Eotech. The dot is slightly larger (2 MOA) than the Eotech's (1 MOA) but shooting at 100 yards the dot doesn't significantly obscure the PoA. The PRO aligns well with my Eotech 3X (flip to side mount) magnifier...using the installed spacer in the PRO but no spacer in the Eotech 3X magnifier. There may be a millimeter difference in the optical centers of the two rail-mounted devices but that is not noticeable to the naked eye and does not appear to impair function in any way. The mounting system is unique and seems to give a solid grip on the rail. Pretty hard to beat the PRO for the price.
