Narrow Band III filter

Written on Mar 01, 2017

Filters the visible spectrum at 435 nano meters, I plan on using this filter with the Celestron Ultima Dou Eyepiece and DSLR camera, I just need 2 more to complete my RGB set SII and HA. I just wished, these filters were not so expensive. THe images I got with OIII was crisp and sharp with my SCT and Newtonian.

2017 the XLT 150mm Newtonian reflectors delivers

Written on Jan 27, 2017

2017: The mount is very stable and stays with target at celestial speeds with motor drive upgrades, in my case I purchased two drive motors. I don't experience any play with the drive motors and if there is play, Celestron website under troubleshooting tells you how to fix tight or loosen mount movements. The CG4 mount with drive motors also supports my NexStar 8SE OTA and I have taken nice pictures of Orion Nebula, IF you have your mount polar aligned, if not you will only have 5 seconds of stills before you see star streaks. For the price of this unit displayed here, its a very good bargain to build on and learn how to use your german equatorial mount. I can tell you this, to the naked eye, the 6 inch OTA Newt is very wonderful. I have taken this Newt to the dark hills of West Virginia, West By God Virginia and the Omni XLT 150mm delivered and stayed dead on with the celestial objects; stars and nebulas, drive motors can't follow solar objects.

Piggyback mount light weight

Written on Jan 04, 2017

I use the piggyback mount for camera and finder guide scope, this is much stronger and lighter than using rails extending the length of the OTA, eliminating clutch slippage and backlash, extending the life of your mounts.

Great building platform for learning and a bargain at $999.

Its compact focal length at 2032mm and easy go setup make this one arm Alt-Az mount a great gift for beginners to Intermediate. The 8SE computerized mount can slew, goto, track, [I have tracked the moon without adjustment] to objects in the sky with its easy two star alignment, its mount has remote guide and aux port for wifi and HC direct RS232C control using Skyportal or Stellerium. Another great feature I like, this model has many features from Celestron to build on; one I can make this Alt-Ax mount function as a german equatorial with celestron 8se wedge where I get the best of both worlds; Alt-Az and GEMs for astrophotography. Second, I can mount a guidescope using celestron piggy back mount, mount DSLRs with T Ring adapters increasing camera focal length, the list goes on. Great buy!

At 10MP I am very impressed

Written on Dec 17, 2016

Works great with capture software for planetary imagery using Celestron iCap2.4 =>, and freeware firecapture 2.4v. At 10MP/USB3.0, provides great fov for finding objects then zooming in target at 640x480 resolution ROI, the camera can mount with star diag, 2x, 3x barlows at 1.25", provides 30 seconds of exposure but, I can only best 10 second exposure due to light pollution. For me, this camera provide cost effective beginners introduction to astrophotography, which will teach me the path of D$LR astrophotography. Yes, I am a beginner.

Great for viewing the moons craters.

Written on Nov 18, 2016

This 6.4mm eyepiece is for quick great viewing the moon's surface on clear sky nights. I plan on using this eyepiece with CCD cameras for astrophotography with Celestron CCD / Phone adapter. Provide magnification during day light viewing birds miles away, and great for amateurs learning how to point and alight scope with finder.
