Defective; also missing parts. Very disappointed.

Written on Feb 15, 2025

I was super excited to get a fully enclosed optic that fit the RMSc footprint on my micro nine, but unfortunately, my example was a bad one. The unit would randomly power off when adjusting reticle brightness, even with a brand new battery. There was an odd, blurry, blue color around the outer half of the entire window (but not on the reticle itself), so this was not a notch filter you might find on typical optics. And then, there was the fact that the glass itself was visibly distorted, leaving your circle-dot more of an oval-dot.

The icing on the cake was the fact that it didn’t even come with mounting screws, wrenches, or a battery. When I contacted Sig (twice) they only sent the wrenches, which I didn’t really need, to be honest. And still no mounting screws! Luckily, Optics Planet made the return easy, which I appreciate. Great service by OP, but a disappointing product from Sig.

Very comfortable, well made, and makes concealment surprisingly easy.

I know leather, OWB, pancake holsters are old school, especially when paired with "ancient" guns like the Beretta M9. That said, this is the perfect holster for that venerable pistol. The organic, rounded edges of the leather, plus the tendency of a pancake holster to conform to your body makes it surprisingly easy to conceal such a large pistol as the M9 under a sweatshirt or light jacket. It keeps the grip tucked in nicely, so there's no printing or weird points or bulges sticking out. It supports the weight of the gun very well and is comfortable to wear all day long. Build quality is top notch, as you would expect from DeSantis. Being leather, it does audibly creak a little when new, but should get better when worn more.

Perfect fit for Glock slide milled by Maple Leaf Firearms (.150")

Written on Mar 05, 2023

I fit this plate (.150") into two different Gen 5 slides that I had milled by Maple Leaf Firearms for the RMR pattern. Both fit perfectly with no wiggle or excess, and the plate height exactly matched the top of the slide. I wanted to try the Acro P2 on those pistols, but since they were already milled for a specific pattern, my only choice was an adapter and this unit from Primary Machine fits the bill perfectly. Fit and finish is top notch! This plate gives me added flexibility on a custom milled slide, should I want to change things up. Highly recommended!

Incredible improvement!

The stock trigger on my AR-556 was functional, but very heavy (8+ lbs). This new trigger takes the weight down to almost half. It has a very small amount of take-up, no creep, and a very crisp break. The reset is a bit gritty, but it's new and I'm sure it will wear in a little; plus, when I'm shooting, I don't pay as much attention to reset as the other characteristics. The packaging is clever and the instructions are simple and easy to follow (like other reviewers, I found the trigger pull to feel even better when installed in the rifle vs. in the packaging). Personally, I feel a good trigger is probably the single most important and significant upgrade anyone can do to their firearm. Totally worth it!

My go-to iron sights for carry guns

Written on Oct 18, 2020

These are my favorite style of iron sights and I have them on all my carry guns. The front orange dot is bright and super easy to pick up and visually sits right where it's supposed to: in the rounded notch in the rear sight. Having the ledge on the rear sight for one-handed slide manipulation is nice, too. The green tritium is also very easy to pick up in the dark. I had a gunsmith install these sights for me as Springfields have notoriously tight factory sights and I didn't want to put any dings/scratches on my pistol trying to install them myself. Totally worth it.

An excellent upgrade over the factory sights.

I recently picked up a 3" S&W 686 Plus to put in my defensive rotation. With my eyes not being what the used to be, I found the factory red ramp sight lacking. In bright daylight, on the range, it's okay, but it still doesn't pop. I upgraded to the Big Dot sight from XS and and now I pick up the sight picture instantly! I also like the fact that it has a tritium insert for night. This is the second revolver I have XS dot sights on (I have the Standard Dot on a Ruger LCR which I also recommend). Installation isn't difficult, but it can be tricky, so take your time and be careful. For S&W revolvers, you'll need to drill the hole (#54 bit) in the front sight for the pin. I also referenced an online video for the rear sight. I'm reasonably handy with tools, so I was able to install the front and rear in about 20-30 minutes. You could probably do it faster if you're familiar with this kind of work. If you have any doubts, have a gunsmith install them for you.

Great optics, size, and weight. Lens covers could be improved.

Written on Jun 07, 2020

I got these primarily for hunting trips. I wanted a good balance between high quality glass and image, good magnification to see across valleys, but also with reasonable weight and size. These binos deliver on all requests. The neck strap is comfortably padded, more so than most other binocular straps I’ve encountered, and the pouch seems well-made with options for belt loop carry. They work well with or without eyeglasses/sunglasses. One complaint: The lens covers are poorly designed. The objective lens caps are retained, but the retainers are weak, allowing the covers to fall off easily. When you pull the binos out of the pouch, one or both lens covers falls off. Not deal-breaking, but definitely annoying. The best solution is to either carry the optics with the lens covers on and no pouch, or just the pouch and no covers. Overall, these are a pretty good set of binoculars and I have no doubt they’ll provide years of use and enjoyment. I recommend them, I just wish they had better lens covers for the price.
