Petzl Corax Harness

Written on Jan 18, 2024

I bought this harness because the instructor where I was at ONLY allowed Petzl brand harnesses. The good - it was light and comfortable. Now the rest. The one I got had stitching too close to the edging, which in turn made the edging separate from the belt. Thing didn't last an hour before it was separating, but I had to use it for three days straight. I can tell you that the problem didn't inspire confidence doing vertical work. To be clear, not that I feared dying, just didn't know what stitching/part was going to unravel next. I retired a 72/hr harness. So definitely not worth it in my opinion. Sad because I'm usually a Petzl fanboy, but this time, trash sport harness with poor QC.

Petzl SWIVEL OPEN Gated Swivel

OMG Best thing since sliced bread or the Micro Swivel. If you don't have one buy at least one. I wish I had ten of these. Petzl, excellent.

8mm AZ Bound Loop Prusik

Written on Jan 18, 2024

Normally, I love Sterling... Look the prusik itself is excellent quality, I just don't like it. It's a personal opinion, so your mileage may vary. I think the sewn part is either too long or the loops too short, but it's my opinion. I'd say buy one if you like this type. I don't find it useful at all. 5+ Star quality - 3 Star useful

Petzl Swivel Large

Very smooth. This is the Large so be advised it's beefy. I bought mine for rescue gear. What can I say? It's Petzl -- Good stuff. Buy it if you need it!

Valiant Optics Themys 10x32mm

Written on Apr 14, 2023

I was looking for a 10x fixed scope for a "verification" scope to check accuracy of some rifles with red dot sights, etc. I'm not a huge fan of parallax correction, which this one does have, but finding a scope without it these days is extremely difficult, so I pulled the trigger on this one because the company says there is no limitation on the recoil and the price was right. All in all the scope seems to be a very well built Chech scope made in China. Glass was clear as you would expect on a 32 mm objective lens, the parallax adjustments seem to be metric because when adjusted to yards it is not exactly on so 100 yard setting is really 100 meters or so it seems. Easy, intuitive, 10x scope. Nothing fancy, just a semi bomb-proof 10x that gets the job done. The adjustments could go a little further in the vertical. I mounted mine on a medium scope mount and ran out of vertical adjustment, but if I had placed it in the correct size small mount, I believe it would have been fine. I wouldn't hesitate to put it on a hunting rifle. So far it has passed my truck, dog, and backseat tests and maintained zero.... if it fits into your niche picks for a scope, like it did mine, go for it and buy one.
