Good sound, simple controls

Written on May 16, 2025

Hopefully these fall into the BOCO category since they cost 4x my last set of ear pro. A 5 year warranty is encouraging

I work as a volunteer RSO several times a month and my last headset (Walker X-Cel) started cutting out and generally being a flake, so I decided to bite the proverbial bullet.

The Sordins are relatively comfortable even with the PVC foam pads (later changed out for gel; a significant improvement), however if you have larger ears they might be a little cramped.

Sound wise, they're quite good on the default "hunting" setting. The "shooting" setting has a very strange tuning, which I suspect is for emphasizing voice intelligibility. The way they drop out during loud sounds is much less jarring than other electronic ear pro I've tried. It's so smooth in fact, I've wondered if it was even working. They definitely are though. If someone's talking to you at the range, their voice drops out just as you'd expect, but the amplification comes back very quickly.

The ambient amplification is quite loud. I double-up with plugs and can still hear fine (i.e. over my tinnitus) even on the lowest volume setting. The control sounds (beeps) are fairly quiet, which I don't mind since I rarely adjust anything.

Speaking of which, the controls are nice and simple. The power button doesn't have to be held down to switch on, just a click. It just takes a second to power-up, which starts you on the "hunting" setting (identified by 1 beep), which is my preference, even

Does what it's supposed to

Written on May 14, 2025

I purchased these along with the Gel SFA Hygene Kit to upgrade my Sordin Supreme Pro-X headset which came with the PVC foam earpads.

Installation was very simple. This setup makes more room for my ears inside the cups, increasing comfort considerably. I can't tell whether there's an improvement in SNR.

My only gripe is about the price. $70 for two bits of plastic seems exorbitant, but I'm happy now that I have them.

Just what I needed...almost

Written on Dec 03, 2017

This kit contains everything needed to finish off your lower, provided you already have a fire control group, grip, and buffer assembly. Perfect for my build.

My only issue was one of quality control. The safety selector in my kit was bent such that when installed, the lever would stick out away from the receiver at about a 10 degree angle; weird and not good.

I decided not to RMA the kit, since I had already installed the trickier bits (e.g. front takedown detent) so I just picked up another safety.

I still think this is a good buy and I just got unlucky.

Unusable: corrosion in barrel extension

Written on Dec 03, 2017

This barrel appeared to be everything I wanted for my lightweight build: Reasonable price, 1:8 twist, lightweight, minimum length, with an integral muzzle brake that still allows replacing of the gas block. Shipping was speedy and everything in the order was correct.

However, upon assembly I was disappointed to discover significant corrosion inside the barrel extension. I've RMA'd and shipped it back, requesting an replacement, but have not heard back from OP yet (11 days). Once this is resolved I'll revise my review.
